Having good mobility at your hips is important for keeping your hip joints healthy and for moving efficiently. Having limited hip mobility can negatively impact your back, when your hip isn't able to move correctly, you can compensate with your back. 

Do this stretch on a regular basis to help keep your hips moving well.

Instructions

  1. Place your foot on sturdy object such as a chest, table or the back of a couch.  The foot should be placed at the midline of your body with the knee relaxed to the side.
  2. You should not have to flex at your spine to stay in this position, if you are having to bend at your spine, the object you are uising for the stretch is too high, find someting a bit lower.
  3. For more stretch, hinge back into your hip.
  4. Hold for about 30 seconds and then repeat on the other side.
